Another feast of football, making the most of the last of the summer sun.
Academy was back with over a 100 future stars and a couple of dozen coaches making the magic happen. The sense of energy and fun on a Saturday morning makes for a great start to the weekend.
Competitive action continues with odd age groups in Cup action. U13s scored a very impressive away win 2-8 versus Nenagh AFC to secure a place in the semi-finals. No such luck for the u13 girls who put in a good showing but lost out to Moneygall at the semi-final stage. The Youths were disappointed with their league result on Saturday, going down to Ballymackey 1-3 in a game they should have gotten something from.
Lots of interclub action too to prep teams for competitive action. We firmly believe that game time leads to progress and kids learn well from kids in a competitive but not pressurised environment. U12Cs took on u12Bs. U11s boys too saw interclub action. U11 girls played two competitive challenges away to Knight Utd and are improving with every game. U15Bs had their cup game postponed but utilised to slot to play u15As. 15As are in Cup action on Monday night are will have benefited from the game time.
On Sunday morning the u16s, getting ready for their cup final, took on an u17 selection in a competitive challenge. Penalties in the end ensuring the lads are tuned in should the final go the distance. What’s it Keano used to say, fail to prepare, prepare to fail... Thanks for Juniors coach John Hayes for refing the game to cup final standard.
And final game of the weekend saw the Derg Junior Ladies head to Ballymackey. These girls have been knocking on the door for a win recently, but alas lady luck didn’t travel with them and they were pipped 3-2.

It’s a big week too for our club lotto. Hopefully you have seen the chairperson’s message on our dreams of a new pitch to support our growing base. The Super draw is on Thursday night. If you can support our lotto please enter as soon as possible to increase our change of winning one of the biggies this week. https://www.ourgrassroots.ie/club/loughdergfc
There is a league wide shortage of referees resulting in some games being cancelled. Anyone looking to give back to the game and maybe earn some pocket money on the side. This might suit some of our youth / young adult players going to college. Please contact Ray Hickey if interested.
That’s a wrap up of another wonderful weekend of grassroots magic. We are on winter training schedule this week on 3G and Sandbase. Let’s ensure we remain Covid compliant at every session.
Same again next week. Happy days…
