First weekend back in competitive action after the long layoff and boy was it action packed.
u12Bs got their competitive careers rolling and recorded a memorable win away in the Shield away to Ballymackey. U12Cs got a walkover but didn't leave a mornings football pass, instead playing out a quality challenge game versus u11.
Anyone walking in Clarisford Park on Saturday noon time was treated to a barnstorming game of football in u16 Cup. A Jack Meagher first half hat-trick gave Derg a platform and in an all round super squad performance they boys rounded out the day 7-1 winners against a game Holycross side.
And it was same again on Sunday. You gotta love the swagger and verve that u14Bs have when playing ball. Against a very strong Borrisokane side the boys found themselves 5-1 down at half time, yet they were still smiling and bursting a gut. In a rip roaring second half they scored a couple of crackers to finish off gallant losers 3-6.
And then the big boys went at it in a keenly contested challenge game on Clarisford HQ as Youths took on Juniors. The Juniors had too much for the teenagers in the end, but in an exercise very beneficial to all involved you get an idea of the talent in depth both on the adult squad and coming through the ranks. Good things are happening in Lough Derg FC.
For the week ahead there is competitive action every night. 14 Boys are at home in the cup Monday while 16 Girls head to Holycross. Tuesday u13 girls head to Birdhill and Wednesday Clarisford Park will host the first Derg Derby of the season when boys 13As take on 13Bs in the Cup. Frenemies for 80 minutes with ocal bragging rights on the line. Do the club proud lads. A Derg win is guaranteed!
In other stuff, Membership is open for renewal on www.Loughdergfc.com. And speaking of guaranteed winners, the club lotto runs every week. This weeks jackpot is €1,125 and if its not won, someone will win the spot prize. Last week was Declan Tormey. You can play the lotto through the website too.
Also, this is the final week of summer training schedule. From next week, squads will switch to their winter slots on 3G and Sandpitch. From next week too our youngest squads will start back, with the Saturday Academy, where the magic starts, penciled in for 19th.
Thats a wrap. Same again next week!
